The great enthusiasm for this list has surprised me. I'm sure
everybody on Rara Avis would be in favor of anything that
would increase interest in and awareness of hard boiled
fiction, and I think any publicity resulting from this list
would do so, but the decision to do something like to release
the final list in a press release or to give it to NPR is up
to Bill Denton Mark
