All this talk about hard-boiled heroes . . .

Title: My Name Is Modesty Log Line: Centers on stylish, special agent Modesty Blaise. More: Studio hopes to create a franchise. Character was first seen on screen in the 1966 movie, "Modesty Blaise." Michael Berrow and Marcelo Anciano will produce. Paul Berrow will co-executive produce.

Title: Gone, Baby, Gone Log Line: Centers on an unlikely pair of Boston private eyes. Writer: Dennis Lehane (author) More: To be adapted from Lehane's novel. Alan Ladd Jr. to produce. Ben Affleck to star in. This is the fifth book of the same series, and Paramount hopes to develop this as a new franchise for Affleck.

Title: The Manchurian Candidate Log Line: After the Korean War, two soldiers who have both been brainwashed in Korea by Soviet and Communist Chinese officials return home. One of the soldiers must stop the other from his mission, which is to assassinate the president of the United States. More: Remake of the 1962 John Frankenheimer film. Tina Sinatra and Scott Rudin to produce.

Title: The Seven Samurai Log Line: A poor village under attack by bandits hires seven samurai warriors to defend them with only handfuls of rice as payment. More: Retelling of Akira Kurosawa's classic saga. No word yet whether the story will be set in Asia, the West or another area.

Other future movies with hard-noiled heroes that we Will LOVE: The Lone Ranger, Knight Rider, Keanu Reeves as Billy Jack, and Pirates of the Carribean (yes, based on the Disneyland ride.)
