Stephen asked about the IACW (known in the countries where English is not the first language by its Spanish acronym, AIEP). Basically, we're an organization of 1,000 writers in 22 countries. IACW was founded in the mid-80's to fight censorship and repression of writers in "dictator" countries, whether of the left or the right. Now that many, though not all, of those goals have been addressed, we are now emphasizing the
"internationalization" of crime writing via annual meetings (both our own separate ones in Prague, Vienna, Barcelona, etc. and "tie-ins" to Bouchercon, Bloody Words, etc.), newsletters, and attempts by members in one country to help members from other countries get published in different languages.

If you are interested in joining, and live in North America, please ask for membership information through:

                IACW/NA
                PO Box 8674
                New York, NY 10116-8674

If you live elsewhere, email me off-list, and I'll give you the contact person in your country.

Best from Boston,

Jerry
