In The Last Coyote and also in Trunk Music, he reads like
he's playing himself as a character in the novel, and he's
appealing for sympathy as a "full" human being. He's not
cool. Also, Connelly has painted him as some kind of
"survivor" who has finally become "sensitive", an indignity
that a true cop should not be put through. I think McBain,
for example, does a much better job of creating credible
people. They are not flawless, but the seem real to me,
therefore interesting
My lack of interest in Bosch does not detract from my
enjoyment of most of the books in the series, two of
which
(The Black Echo and The Concrete Blonde) are great favorites
of mine. But in those, Bosch maintains his cool, for the most
part.
