CHILL, though I seem recall reading it under bad
circumstances, while THE BLUE HAMMER, a controversial choice
here I think, was the first Archer I read not in an
anthology, and I thoroughly enjoyed it...enough years ago
that I remember no incidents from it, though a sense of
world-weariness has stuck with me. TM
(ZEBRA-STRIPED HEARSE is indeed worth seeking.)

I suggest reading The Chill. If you don't like that one, you
probably won't like *any* of Macdonald's late-period novels.
I think it's his best book.
I am also very fond of The Zebra-Striped Hearse, an earlier
work with very good insight into young people.
