Cook's PI character is named Frank Clemons. The first book in the series, *Sacrificial Ground* is a police procedural in which Clemons is an Atlanta homicide cop. By the second and third books, *Flesh & Blood* and *Night Secrets* respectively, he's moved to NYC and opened up a detective agency. Kevin Smith's site has a good entry on Clemons at:

Cook has also written some very good non-series cop novels. One that comes immediately to mind is
*Tabernacle* in which a tough Gentile (i.e. non-Mormon) Salt Lake City homicide detective gets involved in a serial murder case involving the Latter Day Saints.
