Kevin asked:
"But how many of you do take out books from the library? I
find there's very little in the way of hard-boiled at my
local library, though sometimes there's a surprise or
two."
Well, I'm already on record saying I don't often use
libraries because I hate giving the book back. However, there
have been times I could not find a book to buy (at least not
in my price range, especially pre-internet) and I was forced
to borrow a copy (which, of course, makes me even sadder to
return it, which I do). And since I still buy mostly
paperbacks, there have been books which have gone out of
print in hardback while I was waiting for the paperback
edition that never came. For instance, I was forced to borrow
George's Nick's Trip in that long period of time before
Serpent's Tail finally reprinted it.
