Off the top of my head: _Go Home, Stranger_, _Dead
Calm_,
_Scorpion Reef_ and the comic novel _The Diamond Bikini_. I
don't remember anything about _River Girl_, though it's
sitting over there in the shelf. Maybe I haven't even read
it. With all the good contemporary hardboiled (and other)
literature, the old paperbacks sometimes get pushed back in
the reading list. I also find them hard to read: small print
and darkened pages. I know, it's part of the pleasure.
