The recent discussion about "Hot Springs" made me recall a
short (5 pages) piece Crumley wrote for The Big Sky Journal,
a quarterly semi-literary published out of Montana, and which
has been anthologized in "The Big Sky Reader".
The essay is called "Charlie's Bar" and, as the title would
suggest, is a paean to a favorite saloon in western MT. My
favorite line, which I can almost hear in Milo's voice: "So
after fourteen years of hanging out in the bar, I can only
count six or eight moments of violence, and only two
involving me."
