Absolutely correct, it ain't.

That said, Thomas Wolfe is my favorite author of all time, with Chandler second. I don't find either of them overblown, pretentious, or dreck. In wildly different ways, they each thrill me, no matter how many times I read them. And I do, over and over and over.
