Other possibilities for the ultimate PBO series might include:

Richard Stark's Parker series (my choice) Donald Hamilton's Matt Helm series Robert Kyle's lesser known but excellent Ben Gates series Lawrence Block's early, and better, Matt Scudder series

Just to name a few.
