Kevin: M.E. Chaber also wrote SF as Kendall Foster Crossen. I think he also wrote mysteries as Christoper Monig. One of the Milo March books was probably the first novel to use LSD as a plot device (great needle cover on the paperback). I read quite a few of the books, and they're lightweight buy enjoyable. I'd certainly like to see the release of the one Holt turned down. Sounds like it might be fun.
