Hello Mr. Zackel. I'm the guy who mentioned your name. I just
discovered COCAINE AND BLUE EYES and it's a marvelous book.
One of the best of "the Sixties are over and the Seventies
suck" hardboiled books I've ever read, actually.
I'm ashamed to say it, but to tell you the truth I've never
heard of you or your books before. (I had no idea you were on
the list!) I found it in an old used paperback store, and I
bought it soley because Ross Macdonald blurbed it. I don't
remember him doing a lot of that.
My questions:
Is there a sequel to COCAINE?
Have you written anything else?
What were your influences while writing COCAINE? Parts of the
book remind me of Stone's DOG SOLDIERS. Had you read
that?
How the heck did OJ Simpson, of all people, get cast as
Brennen in the TV movie version of your story? Although you
don't really describe him, I pictured a skinny white guy, a
Kris Kristofferson type.
Thanks again for a great book (one which I'd recommend to
everyone out there).
