Prof. Sharp noted that, "Cornell Woolrich" was "many things, but 'hard-boiled' is not one of them." Maybe not all the time. Maybe not even usually. But a lot of his urban cop stories (e.g. "Murder at the Automat," etc.) had a very HB tone.
