Richard Wormser, an old-time pulpster who became a PBO writer, wrote a novel called *The Invader* in 1972, about a rural cop in a unnamed Southwestern border state who must contend with Organized Crime forces who are infesting his jurisdcition. He won the Edgar for best PBO novel for this book.

The protagonist, Sheriff Ken Craigie, is Anglo on his dad's side and Mexican on his mom's which is a political advantage in his county.
