English crap writer trying to imitate American stuff. Wrote some 150 books and some say he doesn't even know his grammar. Couple of years ago there was a revelation that Graham Greene (of all writers) admired Chase and had actually written parts of some of Chase's books!

This is a great one, not actually hb or even a mystery, but very noir account of an alcoholic writer. Billy Wilder made this into a movie in the fourties.
