Howdy. I was born in 1969 (close to the moonwalk as was
someone else here) and first came to hard boiled when I was
about twelve. I believe the authors were John D. MacDonald
and Ed McBain. Somehow at my young age, I perceived them to
be somewhat less than accomplished and preferred stuff like
Frederick Forsyth and Jack Higgins (a different genre, I
guess). Later, in university I read The Grifters and became
fanatical about Jim Thompson. However, that did not
immediately lead me to other hardboiled authors. More
recently, a friend of mine introduced me to James M. Cain and
from there, the deluge has begun...
