Actually, I think that you can
_almost_ backdoor Fleming on to the topic. Certainly _Casino
Royale_ has the right bitter attitude, but of course lacks
the colloquial touch referred to by Mr. Dougherty. However,
as he was one of Chandler's very few literary buds, I think
we can stand a minute of him. Unfortunately, I have never
read _Colonel Sun_, though I saw a copy once. I do know that
Amis loved junk literature, so I suspect he did an OK job
pastiching the "Fleming feel".
