Re Charlie's post about the
regional nature of cop slang:
As he correctly points out,
"perpetrator" (or "perp") is an Eastern
Seaboard piece of cop argot.
Here in the Chicago area the more common
term is "offender." Where I
used to work in Berkeley, CA, they were
most commonly referred to as
"responsibles." In LA (someone can
correct me here), I believe the
most common term is "doer."
Similar differences will occur
in the way a badge, a police car, a
superior officer, or anything
else may be referred. - Jim Doherty
