Many years ago, I read most of Goodis' paperback originals
all in a row and wrote something for a fanzine about Goodis,
relating him to the naturalists of the 19th century like
Frank Norris, in whose books people were unable to escape
their heredity and environment, no matter how hard they
tried. It seemed clever at the time; fortunately, it's been
lost for quite a while and isn't likely to be
recovered.
