RARA-AVIS: Recent Readings

Fri, 13 Nov 1998 22:48:32 -0800 Just finished Raoul Whitfield's _Green Ice_ and loved it. I really
enjoyed the way he leads the reader through the plot. He also deals
nicely with quite a few different characters without allowing the story
to become too confusing. I know Whitfield had at least two other books:
_Death in A Bowl_ and _The Virgin Kills_. Are these just as good?

SPOILER ALERT

The only thing I had trouble with in _Green Ice_ was the way Whitfield
dealt with the larger stones. Having the stones Malendez brings from
South America be fake took a bit of wind out of an otherwise exciting
conclusion to the storyline. Obviously Virgie thought there were other
real stones out there, otherwise she wouldn't have staged such an
elaborate scene at the funeral against Christenson (unless one believes
it was all for the revenge of her friend Carrie). Did anyone have any
similiar thoughts after reading the book?
