A shrewd comment. To repeat a pet theory, HB/Noir derives part of its
appeal from the sense that the reader is getting the "real story," which
was precisely the illusion of "classical realism."

Fred Willard never gets "academic," but he draws certain of us academics
out of lurk mode from time to time.
