Re: RARA-AVIS: Lutz/Adams & Weeding

Fri, 11 Sep 1998 15:16:26 -0500 Who (I'm barely refraining from saying "who was the idiot") decided that
books would stay in a library based on number of readers? That is not
far from the disaster with classical music stations in the U.S., once
again, based on keeping "the average listener" happy by providing only
only the tamest warhorses/edulcorants/pablum pills over the air. I had
no idea that university libraries were doing this - essentially
forfeiting their preservation and documentation role to cater to the
taste of the majority. Are they throwing out Plato, Spinoza, and the
rest of those boring guys too? Arnold Toynbee? William Faulkner?

Sorry about the rant, but Ann's post made me sad and mad. This is
literally erasing the past - Hollywood taking over everything.
