This sounds like someone who's never read Clancy and assumes that since he
sells millions, he must be bad. Read RED STORM RISING. One of the most
exciting books I've ever read. DEBT OF HONOR is a fascinating "what if." Give
Clancy a try. He can be technical at times (just as technical with his
submarines and aircraft as, say, McBain is with his police procedures and
police forms) but he's a great storyteller. I like Pelecanos too, by the way.
