I first found out about Timlin when I was starting to check
out British
hardboiled. I had loved Derek Raymond and wanted to see if
there were
other authors like him (there weren't really, except maybe
some Ted
Lewis). So when I called Murder One in London to see if they
had a
Raymond book I couldn't find, I asked for other
recommendations of
British hardboiled. One of the suggestions was tthe Nick
Sharman, a
1990s British PI, series by Mark Timlin. I said, Cool, send
me one.
They sent The Turnaround. I liked it. It was strict private
eye genre
fare, but very enjoyable genre fare.
Anyway, he's not in print here in the States and I got
sidetracked on
other authors, British and otherwise, so I never followed up.
However,
I remembered him when I was going to London and decided to
get some
more. As it turns out, there is a UK-TV series about him so
most, if
not all, of his books are available in paperback over there,
with TV
tie-in covers, of course. So I picked up another to see how
they went
and asked the list for a complete bibliography for when I
want to go on
from there. (I haven't gotten around to reading it
yet.)
By the way, thanks to everyone who helped on that
bibiography.
