Re: RARA-AVIS: Chemical Dependence and Hard-Boiledness

Cassidy's Girl by David Goodis. Booze saturates all of his books, but
you could probably fill a fifth by wringing this book out into a bottle.

The books of G.M. Ford also revolve around battles with the bottle,
where his Baker Street Irregulars are a crew of down-and-out drunks who
can do wonderful surveillance because no one wants to see them. They've
made their choices and are living with them; they won't tolerate
sympathy or lectures. Plus, these fully developed characters are often
hilarious.
