Oh, major writer. That I'd have to agree with. I can think of a couple
I would rate as peers (Block, early Robicheauxs by Burke, some Ellroy),
but I can't think of any in his generation of crime writers I would rate
above him. And speaking of crime, it is one that more of his books are
not in print. I just can't afford the collectible prices (if you can
find them at all) for the paperback originals that have never been
reprinted, much less, Off the Wall, his "true life novel" about Son of
Sam.
