Passos's U.S.A. trilogy (in fact, I suspect that Ellroy was strongly
influenced by Dos Passos). What he should watch out for is ending up
like his literary mentor: liking nothing and nobody and producing
histerical and angry tracts that are an embarrassment. Ellroy's chance
at salvation is to use his considerable sense of humor to keep the
demons in check.

Here I'm giving Ellroy advice...take me with a grain of salt, do!

I was amused by Kevin's comment on the covers of the Kendrick reissues -
MacIain was a really tough cookie underneath his urbanity, but to depict
him as a James Bond type is close to ridiculous.
