<<I liked Buzz Meeks (isn't he in one of the novels?), and this story
has one of the finest final lines I've ever read. I have *got* to read
those LA Quartet novels. I have the first three, still looking for
_White Jazz_.>>

Buzz Meeks is a tremendous character, an important one in the LA
Quartet. However, the Meeks story in Hollywood Nocturnes is in
contradiction with the fate of Meeks in the Quartet - I suspect it is a
rejected fragment from the quartet.

A few months ago, I had the following experience. I was visiting a
friend at a neighboring town, and a neighbor came by. As soon as I saw
him I thought "cop", and was immediately reminded of Buzz Meeks. He was
introduced to me as...Buzz Meeks!! I asked him if he'd ever lived in LA
and he said no, he had lived here in Virginia all his life. I still
think it's an extraordinary coincidence.
