Re: RARA-AVIS: Re: jazz & hard-boiled

Wed, 19 Nov 1997 22:47:49 -0600 (CST) Nice to see so many stepping up to solo on jazz. The sax in the New York
night, with a confirmed sighting, was great! William Denton's mention of
the great Charlie Mingus, leads me to wonder which composer-players of the
bop period actually got to contribute sounds to noir/hard-boiled films.
When I refer to the composer list in my standard American noir reference,
Silver and Ward's _Film Noir_ (1992), I don't see many of the sorts of
names Marcel Bernadac listed for French films: Art Blakey, Miles Davis,
Stan Getz. I imagine some may be in American films, but not given
composing credits. May be the difference between Hollywood and French film
industries at that time.

Anyway, a good thread. Made notes on some albums to hear and film titles
to check out.
