I think the series was "Doan and Carstairs." I have yet to read
any of
those but I've heard they were good. He also did a series about
a bail
bondsman named Dodd that I like. Davis was a fairly frequent
contributor to
a number of pulps as well as having written a couple of novels,
"Sally's in
the Alley" among them. They are pretty hard to find nowadays
and I've heard
of most of his work only second hand or in reprints of pulp
stories. I've
liked what I've read. He is on the funny side of hardboiled
most of the
time.
