It's been a while since I've read any of the 87th Precinct
novels, but in
answer to Doug Levin's question, no, I've never thought of
Hunter/McBain to
be particularly sentimental. In fact, not even in the least
bit
sentimental. The relationships between the protagonists of his
87th
novels, especially romantic relationships, are dealt with
honestly, but
without any trace of sap.
Unfortunately, I'm behind on my reading, so I can't compare
Hunter's novels
to the short story in this week's schedule.
