I didn't care much for "Poodle Springs" (never could get beyond the name 
for one), but I enjoyed the follow on more...though I'm drawing a blank 
on its name right now.

I'd second Estleman as a worthy follow-on writer.  Don't know if Robert 
Townes, who wrote the script to "Chinatown" does novels, but he'd also be 
a good choice for a follow-on to Marlowe.
