RARA-AVIS: Marlowe imitator

Robert B. Parker just did not want anybody else to write the rest of POODLE
SPRINGS, so he said yes to do it. But I don't want anybody to write any
more Philip Marlowe "pastiches" except Raymond Chandler himself. I believe
Chandler did not want anybody else to write "fake" Marlowe stories. I
think the best Chandler imitator at the present is Loren D. Estleman.

Chandler used the Mallory name for Black Mask, but he could not use the
same name for Dime Detective according to the contract, so he made up the
other name for the "same character"--John Dalmas. Well, I don't know why
he later changed "Mallory" to "Dalmas" in "Smart-Aleck Kill," in the
collection, either.
