It seems that many booksellers routinely sell as many as 80% of their books to other booksellers. There are many good reasons for this but the one most often mentioned was that the book wasn't in their area of expertise. Better to sell it to a specialist dealer for a fraction of its "collectible" value, still make a profit, and use the money to buy more books. Let the specialist dealer extract the last penny of profit from their group of elite collectors.
